The Deckchair Is Back!
Back in March something appeared, seemingly overnight on Bournemouth Beach. A spectacle which apparently could be seen from space and warranted 24 hour security, stood proudly upon the sand. A 27 foot high, red striped deckchair, created by designer Stuart Murdoch was commissioned by Pimms to mark the official start of British summertime and was a fantastic sight for holiday makers and locals to enjoy over its two day beach stay. And this weekend, the deckchair was dusted off and repositioned in its prime beach spot where it will stay until September. Believed to be the World’s Largest Deckchair it is another boost to many free events and activities taking place over the summer in Bournemouth and a true talking point for visitors. Walking towards the pier along East Overcliff Drive, the deckchair comes into view on the sand and you could be forgiven for thinking, ‘hmmm, it doesn’t look that big’, but as you ebb nearer and nearer, its sheer size becomes into perspective. Now, I don’t know how much it would cost to hire out for a day to relax on the beach, but I don’t know if I ever got up there, if I’d be able to get down again!!!
