With the focus mostly being on London holding the Olympic events, it’s been easy to feel slightly detached from what’s happening in our capital. But when the Olympic Torch came through our town, I along with others felt truly part of it all. I joined the other thousands of locals on Bournemouth Beach to welcome the flame to its overnight stay. The two and a half hour free concert was watched from the beach by 12,500 people, with thousands more lining the route and promenade of Bournemouth Beach. When 16 year old Charlie Rogers ran the final stretch to the stage, the crowd was awash with waving flags, camera flashes and cheers. The beacon was lit and it felt like Britain had already won, not numerous Olympic gold medals, but the nation coming together and enjoying a fantastic moment!
