Bournemouth has some fantastic events for families over the summer. The Kids Fun Festival runs every day from 30th July to 26th August between 11am and 4.30pm in Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens. With magicians, puppet workshops, comedy magic and disco there’s something for everyone.
Wednesday will host the ever popular Candlelight Nights. At dusk on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd August the Lower Gardens are illuminated with thousands of tiny tea-lights, displayed in colourful glass jars creating enchanting twinkling images. This tradition has been around since 1896 when Princess Eugenie of France visited Bournemouth and her path was lit by candlelight. Although I wasn’t around at that time, (my children think I‘m old enough to have been!!) I remember lighting the candles as a child and it is such a treasured memory to me.
Bournemouth’s Friday Night Fireworks are back with a bang! Every Friday at 10pm see the skies over the bay lit up with colour. I shall be there ‘ooh-ing’ and ‘aah-ing’ (with the occasional scream when one of the ‘big ones’ go off!
